Happy New Year…start it with a great talk

For anyone who missed Greg’s talk at the Newcastle Mining Institute in November there will be a slightly changed version, focusing on the role of the Blacketts in developing the lead industry in the 17th century, at the Hexham Local History Society’s first meeting of 2015. It’s at the Trinity Methodist Church Hall next Tuesday, 13th January, 7.30pm. Non-members are welcome at a cost of £2, or you can join the society on the night for a year at a cost of £10, which covers 8 talks, 3 newsletters and a copy of the annual journal ‘Hexham Historian’.

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the generous support of other sponsors. Friends of the North Pennines: Charity No:1137467
