William Hutchinson of Greenhead in the Parrish of Stanhopp yeoman Aged Seaventy five years Sworne and Examined sayth 



1. To the First Interrogatory hee sayth that hee knowes  the Compl[ainan]t and hath seene Nathaniell Lord Bishopp of Durham and knowes John Mowbray Richard Mowbray William Blackett and John Westgarth  And knowes the two Parrishes of Stanhopp and Wolsingham and Forrest of Weredale and hath knowne the said Parrishes and Forrest above sixty yeares last past 



2. To the Second Interrogatory this Depon[en]t sayth that the p[re]sent Bishopp of Durham and his p[re]decessors have beene and <nowe> are in right of theire Bishopprick seised among other things of and in the Two Parrishes of Stanhopp and Wolsingham and Forrest of Weredale  And of and in all and every the Lead Mynes and Vaines of Oare within the said two P[arr]ishes and Forest



3. To the Third  Interrogatory hee sayth That for above Sixty yeares last past and by report time whereof the <memory of> man is not to the contrary there is and have beene an Officer called Mooreman or Mooremaster which said Office hath beene from time to time made and constituted by Grants or Letters Pattents from the Bishop of Durham <and the said Officer> or Officers by vertue of theire Said Office have held and Enjoyed all the Lead Mynes within the said two Parrishes of Stanhopp and Wolsingham and Forrest of Weredale



4. To the Fourth Interrogatory this  Depon[en]t sayth that hee knew Mr Thomas Wharton Mr Richard Hutton and the Compl[ainan]t were all Mooremasters and hath heard and believes that Mr Francis Pilkington Sr George Bowes Mr William Bowes Mr Suertys and Mr Wythers were all Mooremasters and held and Enjoyed the Said Lead Mynes by vertue of the Said Office  And knew Robert Heslopp <a Deputy Moorem[aster]>  And knew severall p[er]sons take Tacks or Grants of severall Lead Mynes within the said Parrishes and Forrest from the said Moorem [asters] or theire Deputyes p[ar]ticularly one Stubbing A Myner  <payd>  to Thomas Wharton Esq Moorem[aster] above Forty yeares since to Gillingwood in Yorkeshire to take A tack of A Myne in Rookehopp called Greeneclough which hee had Granted and wrought the same und[er] the Said Mooremaster.



5. To the Fifth Interrogatory this Depon[en]t sayth that the said Officer or Moorem[aster] by vertue of his Office hath full power liberty and authority to Prohibit Stopp and Lett all p[er]sons whatsoever from workeing or digging of any Lead Myne or Mynes within the said two Parrishes and Forrest of Weredale unless such p[er]sons were lycensed by such Moorem[asters] or theire Deputys



6. To the Sixt Interrogatory this Depon[en]t sayth that hee knowes all the Lands Moores Fells Hoopes and grounds in this Interrogatory menc[i]oned and hath knowne the same above Fifty yeares last past



7. To the Seaventh Interrogatory this Depon[en]t sayth that within the Fells Moores Hoopes and Grounds in this Interrogatory menc[i]oned there are severall Lead Mynes or vaines of Lead ( vizt) on Ireshoppfell hee knowes that Fawgrove was wrought aboute Fifty yeares since by Tack from the Mooremaster and Fawheads Greenwellheads Greenwellfoote Barbergrove Peiterclough Earnewell Holesike Deepe:clough head Westgraine Braidsike Arnegrove Ireshopburnefoote and Groveheads  On Burnehopp fell hee knowes the Mynes called Langtayhead East and West of Langtay Stonysike Stonysikefoote Scrathheads Cocklake and Flask  on Westenhopp fell hee knowes the Mynes called Blaberryclough Nicholsonsgrove and Wolfeclough East and West End On Swinhopp fell hee knows the Myne called Broadmayfoote  On Kilhopp fell hee knowes the Mynes called Ellyclough Westrake of Greenefeild Moss:grove Highbirks Bogg grove Hesyley hill west End Ellymay Clay:grove Southgraine and Hilhagarth and hath knowne the Said Mynes in Kilhopp fell wrought by Tack from the Mooremaster and this Depon[en]t sayth that hee knowes the Mynes on Welhopp fell called Cowhause On Heddryclough fell hee knowes the Mynes called Heddryclough Heddryclough East and West Greenfeild Greenfeild East and West and Puddingthorne East and West  On Middleblackdeane fell hee knowes the Mynes called Allerclough Greenhills Elmeford Stoupheads Rakes Clough head Cragg:Grove Lodgefeildslitt and Fawgrove w[hi]ch said Mynes of Fawgrove Cragggrove Allerclough and Stoupheads lye within Auntient Enclosed grounds w[hi]ch have been Enclosed before this Depon[en]ts remembrance  And sayth that the said Mynes have been wrought by Tack from the Mooremaster  And hee is the better able to depose herein for that hee the Depon[en]t carryed Oare severall times from the said Mynes to the Smelt mills of the Mooremaster att Wolsingham  On Sedlinghopp:fell hee knowes the Mynes called roadmaygrove Toadstone Brakensike Whiterake Sedling grove Reedgrovehills Broadmeadows and Sedling great rake  On Bollihopp fell hee knowes Bollihopp grove Harnishaw Shaftwell Ewtree Bollihopp sheele and Levyclough On Billing hee knowes the Lead Mynes called Drygill Birkehill and Ludwell hills And knew all the said Mynes on the Billing Auntiently wrought by the Mooremasters or by Tacks or Grants under them and this Depon[en]t hath carryed severall quantitys of oare gott att the said Mynes in the Billing to the Smelt mills of the Mooremasters which said Mynes in the Billing lye within An Auntient Enclosure which was Enclosed before the time whereof the memory of man is not to the contrary  On Westgatehight hee knowes the Mynes called Groverake and Postwell  On Rookehoppfell hee knowes the Mynes called Wolfeclough Highgrove Gorbutt:May Greenclough Dixons grove Reedburne Langwellsike Foolewood Barkshawmeadow Wolfecloughfoote East of Wolfeclough Langwell 

Arnehill Newgrove Groverake Thornegrove Scarsike Southgraine Thornybray Resbymyres Lynskarth clough head Hinging wells Smaleburneside Reedburnegraines and Upp[er] Skarsike West & East End  On Stanhopp hope fell hee knowes the Myne called Reeburne On Crawley fell hee knowes the Mynes called Crawley and Rogerswell And knowes the Groves called Newlandside and Peakeside and hath heard Robert Fetherston this Depon[en]ts Grandfather say that he wrought the said Peakeside above Fifty yeares since by Tack from the Mooremaster  And this Depon[en]t sayth that dureing the time of his Remembrance all the Mynes wrought within the said two Parrishes and Forrest of Weredale were wrought by the Mooremaster or by Grants or Tacks from them as incident and belonging to theire s[ai]d Office as well within as without Enclosed grounds.
