Monday 11th November Occupied in the morning in preparing & arranging papers etc and afterwards at Shaw House in receiving Rents, machines etc for particulars of which I must refer the Board to the Rental Sheet to be sent. The Tenants universally complain of great loss by their farms. Those of Hartburngrainge South Farm & Thornbrough Highbarns, wished to be released from theirs at May day next, but owing to the late period at which the applications are made, I did not encourage them to expect that the Commissioners would accept their resignations. Although as regards the latter, unless they fall upon some means speedily to reduce the amount of Arrears standing against them, I fear it may be necessary to take measures to secure the Hospital & take possession of the Farm.
