To Mr John Bell at Mr Ellis’s in

Hexham Newcas[tle] 26 Jan[ua]ry 1766

Sir Sir W[alte]r Blackett, upon my acquainting him of what you had wrote about Westwood Corn Tithes, ordered that they should be let to Mr Featherstone if you thought him sufficient at £20 a year for 3 years, without saying any thing of offering them first to Mr Jefferson or giving him any preference on acoo[un]t of his being an old tenant of a farm so much below its value. But if you are satisfied that by giving public notice you can still get a further advance for these tithes I think it would be right to try tho I own Sir W[alte]r who is now in London did not when I proposed doing so take any notice of that or order it to be tried. I am etc HR
