To Mr Duffield at Wallington Newcas. 26 June 1770

Sir Mr Evans says you have some Pine Apples and Grapes fit to cut. If so, I desire you will chuse four good Pine Apples and pack them carefully in a Box that will bear Carriage to London - they must be from the Small Hothouse & must be brought to me that I may put the directions upon them. As to any other Pine Apples that may be now ripe, you may, as it is our race week, send them hither with the Grapes that you think must now be cut. I propose being at Wallington the week after the next, and will then settle with you about the rest of the Fruit, according to the directions I have from Sir Walter. P.S. If you have any Cucumbers you ,may send them too.

                         I am etc HR

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates.
