To Mr Darwin - Greys Inn London Newcas. 30th Janry 1771

Sir Inclosed are two Bills drawn by Bell & Co. on Glyn & Compy.; one for £100 & the other for £500 - the former is to enable you to pay Mrs Ann Lilly so much in part of Sir Wr. Blacketts bond to her for £200 as you wrote Sir Walter she desired he would do.

You will place this Bill to Sir Wrs Credit & send me a receipt for it to be a voucher to my Accot. mentioning therein that it is for the above purpose. The other Bill, for Five hundred pounds you will please to place to my Accot. for the present and advise me so, & when you are in Cash for it I desire you will pay Sir Edwd Winnington the half years Intst. that will be due the 6 of next month on Sir Wr. Blacketts Mortgage of Wallington.

My Brother talks of being in London as soon as Mr Turner & says he will bring the Newcastle Memorandum Book with him which he says he bought for you.

As to the £400; I have had some talk with my Sister & my Bro. She is for vesting it directly in the Stocks, he thinks the Loss will be too great; but does not yet determine what better can be done. So till you hear further & till you receive from me An Accot. of our joint opinions upon this matter you will please to defer making the purchase in the Stocks that we at first proposed. My Sister has my Declaration of Trust for this Money lent in my Name only on the late Mortgage so it is my particular Business to lay out this Money so as to obtain the Old Declaration of Trust or giving a new One. I am etc HR
