J E Blackett Esq[uir]e N[ew]Castle

Sir

I have compounded for Sir Thos Blackett’s Lead at Stella Path Barr for one Year at Twelve Guineas, and yesterday agreed with the Easthand Carriagemen for this year at last y[ea]rs price – we have sent to the Bankf[oo]t f’m this Mill 3,560 p[iece]s 2924 p[iece]s of Litharge 170 p[iece]s of slag & the remainder L C Lead

Theres a Person about taking the House at the Bankfoot that would take an Acco[un]t of all Sir Thos’s Lead & Goods sent that way for the use of his Mills & Mines for a small sum p[er] year as 5 or 6L; it’s more then in a general manner the Loss of Lead would repay, but the satisfaction of being able to know the defaulters when Lead is on the Roads either on the East or West Stage would (I think) balance that, if the Acco[un]t be properly kept, and if you approve of it shall indeavour to agree with him for one y[ea]r to settle the manner of keeping the Acco[un]ts there’s some other little alterations w[hi]ch I think would be for the Better but shall refer mentioning them till I see you on the 19th inst (when I understand the Agents are to [be] down for Subsistence) and will be obliged then to trouble you for 150L for the same purpose Y[ou]rs &c IH

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the generous support of other sponsors. Friends of the North Pennines: Charity No:1137467
