Mrs. Beaumont: under Cover to Newcastle 29th. Oct. 1803 Colonel Beaumont M.P. Portman Square London. Dr. Madam I wrote to you the 13th, 14th, 15th, & 16th. Inst. to none of which I have received an Answer, which has alarmed me, least you, or some part of your Family may be ill; I wrote again the 25th. inst. to which I expect an Answer by Tomorrow’s Post, which I hope may relieve me from my Apprehensions. – I shall go to Hexham on Monday with Subsistence Money for the Workmen, & Wood Payments, where I shall meet your Lead Agents. I am told that Losh & Lubbren, who lately failed, & are in your Debt £1,600 – are gone up to London (one, or both of them) to endeavour to get their Creditors to sign their Certificate; it does not appear that there is a Probability of their paying 2s/6d in the Pound, nor do I think that there appears to be any favourable Circumstance to entitle them to that Indulgence; they may probably call upon you for that Purpose. Messrs. Walker’s Partner Mr. Parker informs me this Day that they have made a Purchase of the Lead Company of 10,000 ps. of Lead, at some Pounds lower than the Price I asked; he would not name the Price nor the Credit; should it be £30 or 31 I should suspect that the Credit will be will be shorter than 6 Months possibly you may have an Opportunity of learning by some Friend; I have applied to the Agent of the Comp.y who informed me that such Sale has been made, but that he had not been informed of the Terms. As you have a large Quantity of Lead at Blaydon near 40,000 ps. it certainly will be advisable to sell, & shall not scruple to sell from 20,000 to 30,000 ps. on the Terms that the Lead Co. have sold. I am &c. J.E.B. Walkers & Co. purchased the other Day 800 ps. Lead at Stockton, the Fo[dde]r. of 22 Cwts. at £30 p[er] Fo[dde]r. & had an Offer of more at the Price; I saw the Agreement: & some small Quantities from Alston Moor have been sold at this Place at £30-15 -,,
