Sir Walter Blackett Barot. Half Moon Street Newcas. 19 Novr. 1776

    Piccadilly London

Dear Sir I wrote to you the 16th & 17th instant to which refer you I am glad to find by your Letter of the 15th by this Post that you are better & hope you’ll very soon have the perfect use of your Legs etc.

I have been with Mr Gibson this Morning & settled with him with respect to the Payments to be made on Friday the 22nd; but I am surprised to find That Mr Swinburn wants to have One Thousand Pounds more than he agreed for; that is, instead of having £11,000 remain on the Estate there will be only £10,000 if his request be Complyed with; this favour he entrears that you will grant and I am desired to mention it to you if you should think proper to do it the Deeds cannot be altered but Mr Gibson informs me that an Endorsement must be made on the back of the Deed and in this Case your risque will be £1000 more I understand that Mr Swinburn is indebted £800 on Bond which he had not made Mr Gibson acquainted with Mr Simpsons £1000 will not be paid off till February next the Date of the Bond. so this may be done in case you approve of it I shall write to you on Friday or Saturday next

                                                                       I am etc J. E. B.

P.S. Inclosed you have Mr Dickinsons report of the state of Coalcleugh Leadmine which is not so promising as I could wish/

I reced by Sr. Thos. Clavering a parcel containg the Leases with the additional Stamp w[hi]ch I imagine came from Mr Darwin.

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the generous support of other sponsors. Friends of the North Pennines: Charity No:1137467
