John Mowbray seems to have been agent for the first Sir William Blackett in Hexhamshire in the 1670s. He was in Wolsingham in Weardale until at least 1665 but at Steel, near Dukesfield from 1668, so it is possible he was recruited by Blackett to oversee the construction of the mill at Dukesfield after Blackett purchased the land in late 1665. Text of the letter only is given. It is accompanied by a list of rents collected, amounting to £92 14s, for tenements in Henshaw, Bardon Mill, Warks Burn, Thorngrafton etc.
