Bretton 1st Oct 1798

Sir

I had the honour of your letter which I would sooner have replied to had I not been on a tour in Scotland where your letter followed me.

I am informed that some years ago Sir Edward Blackett had a promise from the late Sir Thomas Blackett of a Lease of Longage & Wall fell Colliery at the expiration of the Old Lease that Colliery being contiguous to his Estate & Lead Mine at Fallowfield which Promise on Application being made to me previous to the receipt of your letter I confirmed on which account I hope that you will excuse me for not complying with your request.

I have the Honor to be

Sir Your Most Obedient Humble Servant

      T.R.B

Henry Errington Esq.

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the generous support of other sponsors. Friends of the North Pennines: Charity No:1137467
