Finlay Hodgson & Co 18 Sept 1833

Dr Sirs

I am favoured with your letters of the 19th & 20th Inst advising of Sale of 3 p[iece]s of fine Silver & payment of the net proceeds amounting to 1005-16-8 & to Mr Beaumonts Credit at Glyn & Co. My letter to you under date of 19th Inst would in great measure give you the information required from Mr Pattinson nevertheless forwarded your letter to him & now inclose his answer. We shall be able to deliver 7000 p[iece]s of Lead (Com) by the end of next month over above the Sale of 2500 to Walker & Co.

Batson & Co have advised me of the receipt of £5500 from Maltby & Co.

The returns of Stock formerly, were of the Stock at Blaydon only- Latterly that at the respective Mills was included – The actual time the Lead at the Mills will come into Stock at Blaydon cannot be depended upon. The rate of carriage is so exceedingly low that we are obliged to allow the carriers to bring it down at their own convenience and was I to urge the deliver they would instantly ask an advance of price. When the Railway is in operation – and which we expect will be the case in less than 12 Mo[nth]s. to state the precise time the lead can be delivered at Blaydon.

I have no doubt I can sell the whole of our Slag Lead at £13.15/- at which price I would recommend you to offer Maltbys 3,000 p[iece]s half Ref[ined] & half Ordinary.

					I am etc BJ

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the generous support of other sponsors. Friends of the North Pennines: Charity No:1137467
