Thomas Rd Beaumont Esq. Newcastle 15th April 1799

Portman Square London

D[ea]r Sir My last letter to you was of the 9th Inst. I have at length made out a Statement of your Income (as far as any information that I have led me) amounting in the whole clear of Deductions to £13841-4-5. but your Pay as Colonel of a Regt. of Light Dragoons is not included in the statement (for want of information from you) which you possibly may be called on to state, in which case the amount will be upwards of £14000 which will make it necessary that it be inserted in the Statement etc that application should be made to the Commissioners of Income to amend the return; The Statement shall be sent to you by the Mail Coach on the 16th Inst. The Suit with the Lessees of Lord Burford respecting Harehope Gill Lead Mine will be tried the next Durham Assizes to avoid the expence of taking the Witnesses to York. The Income Act requires that the residence of the several Persons to whom Annuities or Interest is paid (for which a Deduction is made in the Statement ) shall be mentioned which you will please to insert in the Statement before it be delivered to the Commiss[ione]rs (should it be called for ) & in case of your Pay being included in the Statement I would recommend that the return be amended with the Sum of Fifteen Hundred Pounds in the stead of Fourteen Hundred Pounds which I mentioned in a former letter; You will please to let me know the residence of the several Persons to whom you Pay Annuities or Interest that it may be inserted in the several duplicates of the Statement. Should the Statement be required from you by the Commiss[ione]rs in London, on its being amended as I have before mentioned it must either be signed by you or by your Agent Mr Bell, in the latter case on application to the Commiss[ione]rs a further time will be allowed for the purpose. Mr Clayton was seized with the Gout the day before he proposed going for Town & I shall send the Land Tax Certificate with the Statement tomorrow by the Mail Coach, the Durham Certificate shall be sent to you as soon as I can obtain it from the Commiss[ione]rs. I am etc J E B

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the generous support of other sponsors. Friends of the North Pennines: Charity No:1137467
