Colonel Beaumont Newcastle 6th Augt 1797 M.P. Bretton near Wakefield Yorkshire Dr Sir I am favoured with your letters of the 1th & 4th ins & I observe the contents. I shall make your apologies to the High Sheriff & Gentlemen for not attending the Assizes, which was your intention to have done had not some unavoidable circumstances prevented you. Since I wrote to you I have had a meeting with Mr Williamson, Mr Heron & the Revd Mr Wilson’s Attorney, respecting Harehope Gill Lead Mine, the former is of opinion that the Chancellor will not grant an Injunction to stop the Workings, of course there will be no other method of proceeding against the Lessee’s of Lord Burford, than by an Action at Law etc & that there is no summary method of preventing the Lessee’s working, which they are doing as expeditiously as they can, & the Mine is very rich, most of the Lessee’s have small shares as 32ds & 64ths so that I fear that there will be a great difficulty in obliging them to account for the Profits, in case of your succeeding in yr cause; The Leases of the Mines, as well as well as that of the Moor Master, are to be laid before Mr Heron etc to prepare a case for Mr Williamson’s opinion. Sir H Wilson should appoint some person at this place to receive the Interest who could give a receipt for the same, for it is not reasonable that you should have the trouble & risk of the remittance. Mr Newton’s letter is a very extraordinary one after what I said to his Son; I shall desire that he will give you the Information that you wanted, that you may be enabled to judge whether what has been done is much to your satisfaction. I shall observe what you say as to the Book Case, & the Beds etc. I am etc J.E.B
