To Mr John Roper Attorney at Law York 28 Aug 1759 Sir, Mr Drake in his history of York &c, page 541 mentions an old record, wch I suppose is in some of the offices belonging to the Archb[isho]p, for he refers to it in the foll[owin]g words vizt. Sir Robt Holgates seal Recognitis servitie prioris de hexham domine Archiepiscopo Ebor. Regist de la zouch p.300 Sir Wr Blackett wants to have a copy of this p[roo]f of antiquity, certified by the keeper of the registers or other proper Officer, & will be obliged to you to procure it for him if it is not too large that you will send it by the post directed for him to be left at his office in Newcastle . The charge for this copy and for your trouble about it, he will pay you by any means you shall direct I am &c J R
