This description of Langley Mill is from the Mulcaster papers in Wigan. The Wigan document is another copy of Mulcaster’s account of smelting which was delivered to the Literary and Philosophical Society of Newcastle in 1795 and which is in the Society’s collections (also in Dukesfield Documents, with date of 1 Sep 1794). However the Newcastle version does not include these pages which must have been written later as they are signed and dates 1806. The original MS is too lengthy for inclusion within the database and therefore is made available within this archive as a PDF download only. Follow the document source reference given above to the relevant download page.

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the generous support of other sponsors. Friends of the North Pennines: Charity No:1137467
