January 25 1710/11 Dear Kitte Ime at present very well furnished with a Cook who is a very sober & understanding man in his business & as for Cook Sudell Ide better have given £100 then Ever have seen his face for he spoild severall of my horses in rideing out at night to the unknowledg[e] of the whole family but at last was happily discovered it was much to be wonderd at that his frequent going out at nights I gave not an opportunity to severall Idle fellows to Rob the house If your brother had got a Ship which he Expects Every day perhaps he might take him himself or recommend him to some Capt[ain] that might Employ him Your Customers at Ripon has all their moneys ready for you & would be glad to see you down, with my blessing to you I am Your most Affect[ionate] father
