May 16 1710 D[ea]r Nedde I inclos’d by this days post to your Sister Maria a letter to the D[uke] of Devon. Go Imediately to your sister & take the Letter and desire Mr Aislabie to peruse & then seal it, I hope he’ll be so kind as to Introduce you to my Ld Duke & then you may Deliver him the Letter I am afraid that you’ll not gett a Commission this Summer, so I hope Mr Aislabie will speak to Mr Burdett before he leave the Town For a Lieutenantcy For you, which do not neglect to make sure, I do not in the least question but my Lord Devonshire will do his outmost for you and if you fail of a Comission this Summer, I make not the least doubt but you’ll gett one in Winter, so patience must be had, With my Blessing to you I am Your Most Affect[ionate] Father As soon as you have deliver’d my Letter to my Ld Duke write me by the very next post what Answer he gave you & what ship you are Lieut of, For Mr Aislabie must do it before he leave the Town, otherwise you may come to be putt by
