To Mr Chr. Johnson Atty. at Law Newcas 7 May 1770 in Durham Sir Mr Darwin write me that he cannot at present get copies of the deeds you want. A Gentleman, in whose hands part of them are lodged being out of town. You will allow me to repeat what I said to you (when you desired me this day senight to tell Mr Darwin you would apply to him in a post or two for these copies at Mr Ward’s expence) “that the getting them or not before the 12th inst. was no way material - for Mr Ward has covenanted to pay Sir Wr the money on that day. - & Sir Wr has made appointments in consequence these of wch. Mr Ward must enable me to fulfill” I further told you “that I have the Purchase deeds, settled by Mr Wards Council & executed by Sir Wr., ready to deliver Mr Ward on payment of the Money” I hope you will acquaint Mr Ward hereof without loss of time.
