To Mr Chris[tophe]r Johnson Attorney at Law Durham Newcas[tle] 9th Octo[be]r 1765 Sir The rent of Redburn Estate has been advanced since the last renewal to £48 a year; but the Tenants are seen so much in arrear since their taking it, and complain so of the dearness of the farm, that I doubt Sir W[alte]r Blackett will not let it so well again however it is now let at £48 a year, if no better terms can be had we must submit to a renewal at that rate: only there is a rent of £4 a year paid out of it to the master, and the Landtax is £1.3s.6d a year, so that the neat rent is £42.16s.6d a year. Inclosed are two certificates of Sir W[alte]rs & Geo[rge] Robson’s being alive: and the new Life to be added is John Blackett Es[q] the second son of S[i]r Edward Blackett of Matfen in the County of Northumberland Baronet, who is now about nine years of age. I should be glad to know whether you can find any surrender made by Fra[nci]s Jaques, as I wrote you the 2nd of Septem[be]r last. I am etc HR To all whom it may concern. These are to certify that [i]r Walter Blackett of the parish of St Andrews in the Town and County of Newcastle upon Tyne, Baronett, is now living. Witness our Hands this sixth of October 1765.
