To Mr Isaac Hunter Jun[ior]r at Newcas[tle] the 11th May 1764 Dukesfield Sir You may close your Chr[ist]mas qua[rte]rs Acco[un]t as soon as you will, for I think it will be a better Way to include the Carriage of the Lead, that has lain in the Ways during the Winter, in March Acco[un]ts, & so to make the pay to the 31st March last. It is with a good deal of satisfaction that I find you give so much attention to the Lead Carriage; for at this time it requires it, I assure you. Mr Reynaldson was here yesterday & says he has tried all the Wainmen, & they are determined to have 4s.0d for 12 p[iece]s else they will engage in the wood or coal carriage. He adds further that he is well informed that the Quakers Co. have this week agreed to give 3s.9d. for their 10 p[iece]s so we cannot expect to get Sir W[alte]rs 12 p[iece]s carried for less than 4s.0d. I have therefore commissioned Mr Reynaldson to offer 3s.10d or if that will not do to give them the 4s.0d; For with such a quantity of Lead at the Mills we must not trifle away the Time. As to the upper stage you must act with discretion & do the best you can with the Dukesfield & Allanheads carriers, The Rookhope carriers I am satisfied have paid 4s.od for 12 p[iece]s since we agreed to the 9s.0d; so that I fancy they can afford it out of that price & hope they will not shew themselves of a restless & imposing disposition. I shall be glad to hear what temper you find those in that you expect to meet with at Hexham on Tuesday. I am etc H R
