Mr Isaac Hunter at Dukesfield Newcas 12th Febry 1773 Sir Sir Walter Blackett has no Objection to your trying to take a Lease of way leave thro Mr Surteeās Lane at Apperley with a Liberty of laying his Lead on the Comon you mention if you can get it for 20 Years & at a small Rent - So you may make the best bargain you can, but take Care to make it Subject to Sir Wrs approbation; the securing this passage etc for the Lead is not meant to be a relinquishing of the public road which we are Endeavouring to support, but that tryal is to be proceeded with as if this thing had not been thought of - As to the Lettering Sir Wrs Lead in the pan, as we were talking of I am satisfied it cannot be done, for the refined Lead in the Cast Metal pans but in the hammered iron ones - I have spoken to Sir Walter about it & he agrees the Letters should be W. Blackett so you have nothing to do but to Consider how to execute it at the several Mills & to send Mr Mulcaster two or three Sets of Letters for the refined Lead at Blaydon - pray take some opportunity of informing yourself whether the Quakers Company intend to join Sir Walter in the tryal about the public Road & at an Equal Expense; as their Agent Anthy Watson assured us they would do. PS The Common Lead may be Lettered in Cast Metal pans I am etc HR
