Letter – Henry Richmond to Isaac Hunter – 2 Jun 1769

To Mr Isaac Hunter at Dukesfield                                                           Newca[stle] 2d June 1769

Sir

Inclosed is a Copy of Watsons and Rains Charge against John Pringle; which I received by the Hexham post about the 14th of last Month, but as it appeared to me a very frivolous Charge, containing no proofs, but only Conjectures & Imaginations, against which no Man’s Character is safe, I postponed taking any notice of it till I should see you. But by the last Carrier I received a Letter from Mr Robert Harrison with a Nota Bene at the bottom of it, Copy of which I send you and desire you will examine Watson and Rain separately, and more particularly than he has done, as to what they can say about this Matter; and that you will enquire of Isaac Earl what Acco[un]t he can give of the Catch of ore supposed to have been carried to Mr Errington’s Mill from some of Sir Walters groves by John Pringle; and let me have their Testimonies in Writing. pray enquire how many horse the Catch consisted of, and in what Year it was? And enquire “also of Mr Rt Harrison what he means by the NB that if his Father or he have any say about the Mill he shall carry no more Ore for us”. Whether they mean to give up the Clerks place if pringle is not turned off? that Sir Walter may know what to do in the Case.

You will remember to enquire about Angus’s £3 5s 3d for Corn at the last Weardale pay; and if it is not included in the £27 12s 11d to give him Credit for it in the next Rental.

I have not had the Month Acco[un]t from Mr Crawhall for March and April. the last time he sent me any he sent seven altogether. I desire you will tell him not to neglect sending me one every month duly for the future. I hope you are getting the Lead away briskly from that Mill. I am etc    HR
