To  Mr Isaac Hunter at Dukesfield                                         Newcas.   the 5th   Novr 1771



Sir      I have had Mr Reynoldson with me to day, and notwithstanding what I have said and written to him I fear he will not be ready with his Ticket for a pay for the Dukesfield & Allanheads Lead, brought to Blaydon this Year by the East hand Carriers, against the time you mentioned, namely the 14th of this Month.  He is so very dull about it that he has been perplex’d by your telling him you would send him an Acco[un]t of all the Lead delivered from the several Mills & has been waiting he says for That before he could reckon with the Wain men.  I wish you would take a ride down on Friday or Saturday to Blaydon and then perhaps you may get his Ticket & be able to make out an Acco[un]t of what is due to those that are not Sir Walter’s own Tenants & I may pay you the Money & they may come to Dukesfield to receive it.  & as to Sir Wr.s Tenants we will leave him for the present to reckon with them.  He says there are several of these Carriers that have Lead in their hands - if so, nothing should be paid those particular Men till they have brought it in.                   I am etc    HR

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates.
