To Mr John Bell at Mr Ellis’s in Newcas[tle] 15th June 1764 Hexham Sir By a Letter which I rec[eive]d last post from Mr Hugall I find that Sir John Eden’s Letter of Attorney for Surrendering the piece of Ground to Dr Sharp in trust for a Burying place for Ninebanks chapel is executed ; and that his Steward Mr Hubbuck will call upon you & prove the Execution of it on Monday next about Noon; of wch I have acquainted Dr Sharp, that he may at the same time, or as soon as is convenient to him, come & be admitted. If it is necessary for him to be admitted at the same Time the surrender is passed, you had better send a person on purpose to Hartburn with a Letter of Attorney for him to execute to some proper person in Hexham. As to winning stones for the wall, Mr Hugall says directions are given to Mr Hubbuck to see if there is any place within Sir John’s Estate at Ninebanks where they can be won and if there be any such at no great distance in which such stones can be wrought without much prejudice to the Land, he says, Sir John will make no Objection to Grant Leave to work there. This answer of Mr Hugalls and Mr Fawcett’s Opinion, of which, I have inclosed you a Copy, rather nonplusses me. But you will consult Mr Ellis whether he remembers upon any occasions or in any instances that the Quarries have ever been wrought by the Lord’s within inclosed Copyhold Estates: for you Mr Fawcett rests it all upon the custom of the manor. Dukesfield pay will be on Wednesday next so pray let me know on Sunday what sum you can furnish and how much of it in Silver. I am etc H R
