To Mr John Bell at Mr Ellis’s Hexham                                               Newca[stle] 22d Janry 1769

Sir

I do not think you need pay Mr Tower’s fee farm rent to Mr Heron, till he is appointed receiver; for perhaps Mr Tower may employ somebody else. however no harm can arise from your postponing the payment of such a Sum till Mr Heron, or whoever it be, receives an Authority that will justify your payment; and I dare say Mr Heron will not blame you for postponing it till then. P.S. I have sent the deeds for the purchase of Hexham Ferry to Mr Darwin: and told him If he wants any Materials relating to Surrenders and Admittances to write to you. I am etc    HR

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates.
