To Mr John Bell at Mr Ellis’s in Hexham Newca[stle] 24 Novr 1769 Sir I have looked at Mr John Greenwells plan of the ground in Dispute between Hexham & Blanchland, which is very well executed; and I don’t doubt but he has accurately surveyed the prem[is]es. I shall return you the plan by the first Hexham Carrier & desire Mr Greenwell may make two small plans by a Scale of half the length and without ornaments. One of which should be given to Mr Heron and the other you may keep, for the present, at least. for if we should have to come to Tryal with the Trustees they will be wanted. Some few particulars should be enquired of the old people about, when you meet them. Such as when the different ridings were made by the Trustees? which will shew how they have encroached time after time & this should be inserted in the plan. Where the two Tryals for the Leadmine made by Sir Wr were & when? which should be marked in the plan. Whither the Waifs that have been taken by the Blanchland people have been Carried. Whether to Wester Meadows, Westfield Nook or Hathery burn or else where? Whether the Names in our Line of boundary are all rightly inserted in the plan? and whether the old people, you are to examine, know & make any use of those Names: if not, such as they do make use of should be inserted in the plan. I have also returned you in the Tin Case Mr Marriott’s plan of Westburnhope & wish he would distinguish the old Inclosures, the Moor grounds and the ground in Dispute, together with the Wall or fence in question; & that he would do this by Colouring and an Explanatory Table. I shall be glad to hear that you receive these plans safe & am etc HR
