Letter – Henry Richmond to John Bell – 25 Nov 1769

To Mr John Bell at Mr Ellis’s in Hexham                                              Newca[stle] 25 Novr 1769

Sir

I have told Mr Ra Forster of what Mr Bullock had mentioned to me of the variation made by Mr Errington’s people (from the Line staked out at Hallington by the referees) in building the Wall: & he promised to view and let me know the Contents of the ground taken in by such variation. but I have not had an Acco[un]t from Mr Forster, whose Illness I suppose has prevented him. Mr Bullock represented the quantity gained by Mr Errington as very small and that it would be easy to give Sir Walter an equivalent by a proportionable variation of his Wall from the Line staked out for it.

I told Mr Bullock that it was wrong that proper Care had not been taken in the making this fence to make it agreeable to the answer given to his request some time ago, which was that it must run according to the Line staked out and no[t] otherwise: and that as to the remedy it must depend on Sr Walters pleasure, after Mr Forster had seen the Wall.

I am very glad the purchase Money for the Ferry is not to be paid till May & am etc    HR
