To Mr. John Grey Attorney at Law Newcas 11th. Augst. 1772 in Berwick upon Tweed Sir Mr Lawson Armstrong has been with Sir Walter Blackett complaining that Willm. Archibold’s People have interrupted his Tenants in the Enjoyment of his Fishery in the Tweed called Canny which adjoins to Hobshole. that they have destroyed the Boundary of White Sands Fishery wch. was set up in Sir Walter’s presence. & that they have taken the Net & Fish from his Tenants of Canny Fishery that were fishing above Sixty Yards within his Boundary & to the Westward of Sir Walter’s. & he has allowed me to take a copy of his Drat. of the Fishery & Testimonies of some old People in his favour; to send to you for your Examination Accordingly Sir Walter desires you will examine into the particulars of this Dispute that you will collect from Mr. Douglas Mr. Lambert & others what they can say touching It & the Boundaries of the respective Fisheries - & when you have obtained sufficient Information that you will send me a State of the Case, as it appears to you, together with your Opinion what is right and equitable for Sir Walter to do: either by way of amicable decision of the Dispute, or support of his own Tenants in what they have done. You will please to let me hear from you in Answer to this as soon as you conveniently can. I am etc HR
