To The Rev[eren]d Dr Sharp at Newcas[tle] 31 July 1764

Hartburn

Sir I spoke to Mr Newton sometime ago to draw a plan of St Nicholas’ Steeple and expect it will be done in a week or ten Days. Mr Fawcett is preparing a draught of the Deeds to be inrolled to compleat the Grants of Ninebanks & Whitley Chapel yards.

Inclosed I return you the copy of the Petition to the Archbishop of York for consecrating Ninebanks Chapel Yard which I suppose was signed by Sir W[alte]r Blackett and has been presented to His Grace. If so, I am sorry that you have therein called the Living of Allandale a perpetual curacy; for it is aDonation, and has never been liable to presentation or lapse. The stiling it a perpetual Curacy in this petition may occasion Disputes hereafter, and be of prejudice to the prescription which has invariably been preserved as to this donative. P.S. I hope you will have an answer soon from Mr Chester. I am etc H R

The Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project aimed to celebrate and discover the heritage of the Dukesfield Arches & lead carriers' routes between Blaydon and the lead mines of Allendale and Weardale. A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the generous support of other sponsors. Friends of the North Pennines: Charity No:1137467
