To Richd Wilson Esq Leeds Newca[stle] 28th Octor 1768 Sir On the 21st of Septemr I gave your Dra[ugh]t of Conveyance of E[as]t Kenton to Messrs Widdrington & Richmond to be engrossed, not apprehending any thing further to be done; but they objected to the Mode of it and my Brother wrote Sir Wr Blackett that some hazard would attend the letting his bonds for the two £7000 to the Mortgagees of the Estate stand out – Sir Walter therefore ordered Mr William Wilson’s opinion to be taken, which concurs with their Objection. On Wednesday last, and not before, my Brother returned me your dra[ugh]t and sent me the proposed Alterations with Mr Wm Wilsons Opinion and a Close Copy of the dra[ug]ht pursuant thereto. If you think the proposed form admittable, or will please to point out any other that will obviate the objections to letting the bonds stand out against Sir Walter, I shall be glad of it; that this matter may be finished without delay. As the papers are two large for the post I have prevailed on Mrs Rayner to take them, who intends to leave this place on Monday next. Thos Harle has between 70 & 80 fothers of Slates, won at the quarry in the W[es]t Demain in E[as]t Kenton where he was getting stones for the road that Mr King undertook to make at the West End of the Town – he desires to know whether you will accept 12d a fother for them, which is the usual rent for a Slate quarry, or will reserve them for your own use, as occasion may arise in the Estates, and pay him 3s a fother for Winning and scappling them, which I am informed is a reasonable price. The Slates will grow worse I believe if not used in a Year or two, which I don’t see any appearance of their being at present, so the 12d a fo[the]r seems eligible but you will please to favour me with your directions.
