Letter – Henry Richmond to Sambrooke Freeman – 9 Jul 1768

To Sambrooke Freeman Esqr Berkley Square London                      Wallington Sat 9th July 1768

Dear Sir

Having several Months ago articled with Mr Wilson for the Sale of Kenton & received ten Thousand pounds from him I did suppose he had settled with you & Mr Glover or whoever is the other Mortgagee in respect to the remaining fourteen Thousand, so that I concluded I had nothing further to do in the matter; I always understood that some delay in getting the proper title Deeds or some deeds out of Chancery was the reason that the purchase had not been entirely compleated & a few posts ago I received a Letter from my Agent that those deeds were then got out of Chancery or some some Trustee’s hands & that proper Deeds were then drawing to finish the whole Affair this State of the Case prevents me from giving you so explicit an answer to your favour of the 5 instt as I sho[ul]d otherwise do, so that I must beg you will receive this as a Sufficient Answer to yours till I receive a further Account from Mr Wilson to whom I shall transmit a Copy of your Letter; it is certain, as there is no Agreement between you & Mr Wilson to the Contrary you must receive your money from him or me upon proper Notice according to the Deed of Mortgage, but your above mentioned Letter is the first Notice I have received of your inclination to have your Money upon that Mortgage pay’d in.
