To The Revd. Mr Selby Ord at Cockermouth Newcas. 2d. Janry 1773 in Cumberland Sir Inclosed I return you the Receipt for One hundred Pounds, which you sent me in your Letter; wch. I received this day - This Receipt will not be any discharge to Sir Wr Blackett for £100 due on a Bond or deed of Gift of £1100 to Mr John Ord as I understand his widow is living & have never heard that it was payable in Shares to his Children on their coming at Age - it will be necessary therefore as I wrote you on the 30th., ulto. that a Copy of that Bond or Deed of Gift should be sent me as soon as possible that a judgement may be made how Sir Walter is to get an absolute discharge on the payment of this £100 - this Copy I hope you can procure me directly from your friends in the North or if you will let me know where the Bond is I will write to some Attorney in the Neighbourhood to get a Copy that no time may be lost nor the opportunity you mention shipt of going to America in the Spring - with this Idea I wrote you on the 30th. ulto. on receiving Sir Walters Letter & without waiting the Receipt of yours - I beg leave to refer you to that Letter & am etc HR
