To The Revd. Mr Selby Ord at Cockermouth Newcas. 30th. Decemr. 1772 Cumberland Sir Sir Walter Blackett writes that you have applied to him for £100 to be paid in of the £1100 for which he gave a Bond or deed of Gift to the late Mr. John Ord of Broomdikes & that this £100 is asked for as your Share of that Sum. The whole Sum or any part of it will very readily be paid whenever Sr. Walter can have a proper discharge for it - In order to which it will be necessary for me to have a Copy of the Bond or Deed of Gift. For tho’ I have regularly paid the Interest of it, yet I do not know when & to whom the principal is payable I hope you will be able to send me this Copy soon & to let me know where the Original is, that when the £100 you want comes to be paid a proper Endorsement may be made upon it; without which no part of the principal Sum can be paid I am etc HR
