To Messrs. Serocold & Jackson Newcas. 18th Octor 1771 Merchants - London Gentlemen I am favoured with your Letter of the 15th inst[ant] offering to give me the preference in your Commissions for the several Articles you want at this port, particularly Lead - In answer to which I beg leave to thank you for the offer you make me & acquaint you that being Sir Wr. Blackett’s Agent for the Management of his Lead Affairs I have always looked upon it as inconsistent to be concerned in that Branch for any other person & thereby to Act both as Buyer & Seller - & the variety of other Business which I am honoured with by Sir Walter makes it impracticable for me to undertake furnishing you with the other Articles you mention. So I can only say in Case you send any Commissions to this port for WB or WB.L Lead the former being Sir Wr.s comon & the latter his refined Lead you will please to direct them to some of our Lead Merchants here & I shall be ready to sell to them at the Market price. The present prices are £17 our fother for the Comon Lead & £17 . 5s . 0d the refin’d - but likely to be higher. Our principal Lead Merchants are Mr Jonan. Sorsbie Mr Wm. Peareth Ra Carr Esqr. & Co. Edwd. Mosley Esqr. & Co. Mr Wm. Nesbitt & Co. and John Baker Esqr. I am etc HR
