Letter – Henry Richmond to Thomas Maughan – 16 Jan 1769

To Mr Thomas Maughan at Newhouse Weardale                                 Newca[stle] 16 Janry 1769

Sir

I received your Letter of yesterdays date by Mr Milburn acquainting me that Sr Wr Blackett has no Share in the undivided part of Wolsingham Town field, that you ever heard of. but I find by Mr Daniel Alder that the proprietors apprehend that he has a right to some part of it, if not for Culture at least for a Way; I suppose to the Miln Close. And as they are for applying imediately, that is in Ten days time, for an Act for dividing and allotting this Common field, it is necessary you should inform yourself imediately either by going down or sending for the Tenant, what the Enjoyment has been by him or the former Tenants of any part of these East Town fields for if Sr Wr has only a right to a Way we must take Care to have it preserved to him.

I desire you will let me know what you learn about it that I may write to Sr Wr before the petition is presented in case you sho[ul]d find he is any way interested in this intended division. Mr Wm Watson says you have forgot the pikestone ore in the Acco[un]t you signed however I paid him no more than the Note & told him if there was any more due he wo[ul]d get it at the pay. P.S.
