To Mr Thomas Maughan at Newhouse in Weardale Newca[stle] 25 Janry 1769

Sir

I received your Letter of the 21st about the Ridge of Land w[hi]ch you say Sir Wr Blackett has in the undivided part of Wolsingham East Town field – but I wish you had been a little more particular and acquainted me of what you thought might be the annual value of it – whether it is not absolutely necessary for Sir Walter to have this very Ridge allotted to him, as being the best and directest communication between the highway and the Miln Close – whether you suppose Sir Walter will be intitled upon a Division to more or less than the half Acre, of which you say this Ridge Consists, when the Commissioners come to consider the quantity and quality of the Ground – whether the Owners of other Estates have a right to a Way along this Ridge – And any other Matters that it occurs you ought to be provided either for or against before the Act passes pray who are proposed to be the Commissioners and is there any Objection to any of them? If the Carrier does not come to Town next week, thro’ the badness of the Weather I think you should send one on purpose with an Answer to this Letter; for Sir Walter will want to know some of these particulars before he can give his Assent to the bill. And pray has the bill been read to and signed by the proprietors, which it either is or will be soon; for then some of them can give you some Account of it and you can give me your opinion upon it whether there is any thing that ought to be otherwise than they have put it. I am etc HR
