Sir 

As Sir Walter has told me he will allow me a clerk; & you were speaking of a son of the late Mr Peart’s, whom you were desirous of putting soon to some business, I shall be glad you will let me know what age he is; & that, if you have not already provided for him, you will bring him hither as soon you come, that I may be able to judge whether he will do. In the mean time, I would have you send me two or three Lines of his writing, & let him be improving himself in arithmetic.  I am etc HR
