To Sir Wr Blackett Baro[ne]t MP Half Moon Street Piccadilly London Newca[stle] 14th Decem 1768 Hon[oure]d Sir Inclosed I return the Letter from the Mayor of Berwick & others, proposing an Act to be got this Sessions for improving the Fisheries in the Tweed. The Suddenness of their proposal creates a Suspicion of it, as there will not be time for the other proprietors to consider the Matter so well as, no doubt, these Gentlemen have done. I hope they will agree to postponing the Application till next Year; and to have, as you have wrote Mr Grey, a general Meeting during the Summer, of all concerned in the River. Mr Bell and Mr Forster will be at Berwick on Monday the 2d of Janry to receive your rents – I shall see them before they go & give them instructions from your Letter & from what occurs to me relating to this Matter, and about Mr Ord’s bridge: the sooner that dispute is settled the better; lest the right to the plank way be lost. I find the Ship with the Servants boxes is not sailed; the Wind having been contrary ever since the Ship cleared. I am etc HR
