To Sir Wr Blackett Barot. M.P. Half Moon Street Newcas. 16th March 1771 Piccadilly, London Honrd. Sir I have received Mr Thurston’s Agreement for the Tithe Ore of Weardale Mines, & shall endeavour to remit Money to Mr Darwin half-yearly for the Composition - for I suppose he will not require the payment quarterly, tho it is so stipulated. this I should know. Mr Bell says he acquainted the Trustees of Hexham School about Mr Busby, as you ordered, but that they had not had any Meeting when he came from thence yesterday. One of his Majesty’s Sloops came into the River Yesterday, while the Sailors were in the height of their outrages, and struck such a panic into them that they got on Board their respective Ships, and above 70 Sail got to sea directly; & two of the Ringleaders have been taken up and brought hither to day for Examination; and it is thought they will be able to prove something Criminal against them so I hope there will be an End of this Commotion which began to grow formidable.
