To Sir Walter Blackett Baro[ne]t at Wallington Newca[stle] 2d April 1768 Hon[ou]r[e]d Sir I shall write this post to Mr Thos Wilson & recommend some of our Lead Merchants to him for his Commissions as it is not consistent for me to Act both as Byer and Seller. Mr Ellison, Minister of St And[re]ws ought to execute the Lease of the Charity Land before it is send to Dr Rastall: but he has been at Oxford and only got home a day or two ago: Mr Lambert will now get it executed & I shall then send it & write to Dr Rastall about it. I will enquire about Mr Smeaton, when I go down to Change, & write to morrow what I learn of his time of being here & whether he can go to Hexham about the Middle of the month or when. The Keelmen are gone to work again on being promised by the Several Fitters not to be over loaded any more; but other difficulties are arisen in the trade, by many Masters of Ships refusing to take what they now reckon short Measure; having been used to such large Measure Sometime. Besides, the Sailors have made a Stop, demanding more Wages but I hope a little time will bring all to rights again. Dukesfield pay, which will be near £4000, is to be made on Wednesday the 20th instant. I am etc HR
