To Sir Wr Blackett Bt at Wallington Newcastle 23d Augst 1768

Hon[ou]r[e]d Sir

The Mayor dines at Gibside to day & as Judge Yates leaves Durham to Night the opportunity of writing thither to him about Welch is over: but I find several of the Magistrates are ag[ain]st an Application to the Throne for this Man: but that they are willing to soften his Sentence by paying for his passage & letting him take his chance in America as a Servant for seven Years. Mr Cookson is going to London the latter end of this week: so will be obliged to you if you will postpone sending him to the half Buck till the latter end of next month. I have sent Mr Robsons book by the postman – Mr Westgarth has not been here yet as soon as he comes I will take care to let you know what he says about Longtyhead.

Geo Bowlt has finished the Boat & I expect it will be conveyed to the Lake this week – I am very busy to day stacking hay and observing the Clouds w[hi]ch seem very heavy & threaten rain. Yesterday I was at Stella selling the old Waggon Way & Materials of Winlaton Coll[ie]ry. We got but bad prices for them but they are better sold for little than left to be carried off for Nothing by the bad people of that Neighbourhood. I am etc HR
