To Sir Wr Blackett Baro[ne]t MP in Half Moon Street Piccadilly London Newca[stle] 24 April 1769 Hon[ou]r[e]d Sir On Saturday last Mr White & Mr Guttory hung up in the ’Change a paper containing such instructions as they proposed should be sent to you & Mr Ridley: and to day they have been with some of the Aldermen to sign it, alledging The Mayor is out of Town, but that he and Alderman Forster will sign it on his return. I do not hear any body has yet signed, but on the Contrary that Mr Bell and Mr Mosley have refused them; and Mr Blackett says they have not yet asked him. The Contents of these instructions I have not been able to learn, further than that Tryals by Jury are recommended – the Habeas Corpus Act desired to be enforced & the Middlesex Electors supported, & several grievances, collected from other instructions, redressed: & that you and Mr Ridley are thanked for your Endeavours to prevent the Coventry bill from passing.
