Letter – Henry Richmond to Walter Blackett – 28 May 1768

Hon[ou]r[e]d Sir

Mr Ridley came to Town on Tuesday Evening. I saw him yesterday & he looks very well; he proposes going to Blagdon the Beginning of next Week but promised to write you particularly of it and other Matters today – he says he finds by a Letter last post from London that all is quiet again. We contine so here, but the Mayor with Mr Ridleys approbation has inserted an Advertisement in the papers encouraging the sufferers by the late Riots at Shields to make Informations.

I will consult Mr Kent & Mr Brumell about the Stuff for the chair bottoms.

Mr Wilson is not in Town; when he comes I will ask him what is to be done with the Arbitration bonds; the part executed by Mr Errington should in my opinion be kept in your Office. I have not received any Answer from Mr Brown about the promisory note.

I hear Mrs Rastal is ill of a Fever & but little hopes of her. 

Mr Bell writes that Mr Smith, Steward to Mrs Ord, has asked him for your permission to win stones on the Comon called Keenley Leazes, for a Bridge over West Allan on the road from Haltwhistle by Whitfield to Allandale Town. I do not find he applys in Mrs Ords name in the name of the Keenley people, who are Subscribers to the Bridge; but in the Name of the Country in general.

I have sent a Bible, a Dictionary and a history of England, as you bade me for the Servants; but cannot yet meet with a collection of Travels etc proper for them. I am etc    HR

I have sent herewith the Article & the Draught of the Lease for Archbolds farm w[hi]ch I have just got from my Brother & have not had time to read more than the first sheet of, without keeping the Cart too long. But I hope it is all right.
