Hon[ou]r[e]d Sir

The Easter Guild will be on the 27 inst & the Sessions for this town & the County of North[umber]land on the 29th . We have made some progress in Mr Robsons acco[un]t & so far as I can judge at the present Mr Brown will not be intitled to much of the money found in Mr Robsons closet – he is abroad at present, but someday next week I shall go over & deliver him the D[uke] of Portlands papers & take a schedule of any things that appear material. The New Coll[ier]y near Rothley is about 8 fath[o]ms deep & no water in her to obstruct the workings. My brother hopes in a day or two to give an answ[e]r about the £1000 – he says the money for the purchase of Hawick will not be wanted for some months: as the mortgagees are intitled to some notice before the money is p[ai]d them. The title deeds he says are before Mr Fawcet & the dra[f]t of the Conveyance is preparing. As to Mr Smith he is still but indiff[eren]t, tho I don’t find in any hazard. Mr Blackett is out of town today but I shall deliver y[ou]r message to him to morrow. I am etc    HR
