To Mr Darwin Gray’s Inn Newcas[tle] 1st March 1765 London Sir Inclosed you receive my affidavit of the Registry of Lady Blacketts burial as you desired. I saw Mr Johnson, the Steward of the Bishop’s Halmot Court, yesterday and he told me it is absolutely necessary to have Dr Smith’s heir admitted Tenant to the Copyholds at Woodcroft and the other places, contained in the abstract I sent you; and that he must Surrender them again to the Heir of Mr Lan[celot] Allgood; But as Dr Smith’s Heir is an infant it will be necessary to get an order out of the chancery at Durham for him to make such Surrenders. He has promised to get all this done and to write to you upon the subject as occasion may require. Inclosed I send you a Copy of an Exemplification of judg[e]m[en]t for def[endan]t in the suit John Thompson against Sir J[o]n[atho]n Fenwick touching the right to the Leadmines in the parishes of Hexham and St John Lee dated 1 Nov[embe]r 1657 and should be glad to know whether you think we could learn from the record what particular mines, or whether all the mines in those parishes, were recovered by Sir J[o]n[atho]n Fenwick possibly the pleadings in this cause may furnish us with some materials to mind the case which Mr York gave so unfavourable an opinion upon, as to Sir W[alte]rs right of working the mines in the freeholds in Hexham Manor.
