To Mr Darwin Greys Inn London Newcas the 10th Janry 1772 Sir Inclosed I send you three Bills as above - the first wch is for One Hundred & fifty seven pounds ten shillings is meant for Mr Thurlows half years Composition due 22d instant - the second for Two hundred & Twenty pounds is for the quarterly payments you have to make for Sir Walter Blackett to the 31st March next - & the third is intended for the half years interest due to Sir Edward Winnington on the 6th next month - the first & third bills you will please to place to our Accot till you can send me the receipts for these Sums & in the mean time advise me of the receiving of these bills - & for the other bill I desire you will send me the usual Sort of receipt to be a Voucher to be to my Accot with Sir Walter. Sir Walter sends you by this post two Bills on Sir Jeffery Elwes for £300 each which need not be presented for payment till the purchase Deeds are delivered to Mr.<Chester> - they are not quite compleated - a Surrender in the Manor of Hexham being to be made but that will be got done before Sir Walter sets out for London & and I expect he will bring the deeds with him. My Sister Headlam got a frank of me t’other Day to enquire of you about my Brother, whose Conduct, especially in not writing to her, makes her very uneasy - indeed it is strange that he should shew no Concern for so long a time for her affairs & Connections here. & that his Expectations should be so sanguine of great rewards for his Keel and Longitude Schemes as to make him quit his profession wherein he is allowed to be Eminent!
