To Mr Darwin Greys Inn London Newca[stle] 14th May 1768 Sir Inclosed I send you a copy of a Letter which I rec[eiv]ed from Mr Wilson last post, & think he is wrong in saying that his intrest in the Estate did not commence before the 12th instant as you will see by the Copy of the Articles of Agreem[en]t which I sent you in Septemr last, unless he means that no Rent was due and distrainable for before that day. I had received & remitted him Mr King’s rent, which he mentions, before I got his Letter, & so shall write him to send me a bill for his proportion of the £280 for the ½ year’s int[e]r[es]t due 27 March last. You see what he says about the Delay, & about Mr Freeman’s Money; so you will desire Mr Freeman or his Solicitor, to acquaint him of the Day; for it is better it sho[ul]d be transacted directly between them than roundabout by this place. I shall write him who Mr Price is. I wonder you never heard there was a Modus for the Corn tithe of Edward Slater’s farm; for I gave an Acco[un]t of it to Mr Robson that it was ten shillings a year – however I should not think it wo[ul]d be looked upon as an Incumbrance but that every owner of an Estate would be glad to pay so small a matter to be exempt from the demand of Tithe in case any improvement should be practicable in any future time in the Estate. I am sorry to hear of the riotous proceedings of the Sailors, & others of the lower sort, with you; but hope the Extremities they have driven the Executive power to make use of will convince them of their Error. We are all quiet here. I am etc HR
