Letter – Henry Richmond to William Darwin – 16 Mar 1774

Sir

	Inclosed I send you Mr George Selby’s Copy of the Boundary and Description of the Lands and Coalmines intended to be conveyed by Sir Walter Blackett to Mr John Selby with some Alterations made in it by me and also the Copy of the Conditions of Sale and of the Article for the purchase - These I send that you may be Master of the whole Business in case any more difficulties should arise for tho’ we are agreed as to the parcels yet Mr Geo: Selby as you will see by his Copy of the Boundary etc is for inserting particular powers for working the Mines in Unthank and East Ord - this was not thought right for Sir Walter to grant and with respect to Unthank as Mr John Selby himself will be the Owner of the Soil and as to East Ord as Sr Wr is only Lord of the Manor within which there are several Freeholders and accordingly I wrote Mr George Selby on the 4th of Janry last that Sr Wr would convey only in the Terms of the Old Deeds which I understand he agreed to - But as this is the Business of Gentlemen in the Law to judge of I leave it to your Care and have refered Mr Selby to you so you will please to settle it with his Agent that we may get forward as the time of conveying the Agreemt into Execution now advances fast

	Sir Walter has made Mr Selby a present of a Quay or Coal Staith in Tweedmouth where I do not know that he has the Mines and has also agreed tho it is not in the purchase Article that Mr Selby shall have the Lead and Stone in Unthank and the Township of East Ord                                                                    I am etc    HR
