Mr Darwin No 47 Hatton Street Newcas Satdy Eveng 18th Novemr 1775

London

Sir

To day, & not before, I received your Letter of the 13th instant which should have come on Thursday Morning last; By that Post I received a Letter from Sir Walter, but Mr Gibson was out of Town and did not return till last Night; and to day, the only Bailif he can trust is out of Town, but on Monday Sir Walter’s orders will be executed against Mr Forsters goods and Stock upon the Farm; but with regard to the House & Farm which by your Letter he is to quit immediately, Mr Gibson tells me he cannot be dispossessed of it till Mayday next. To be sure this method of proceeding which will be executed before you receive this, is making a proper Example of a bad Man but then Sir Walter will be a greater loser than he would have been by Mr Gibsons proposal of a Composition. The speedier Example is made of him I own the better; for he has received, Mr John Bell tells me, £18. 10s. 0d of Hexham Rents & I shall not know till the Rent day, the 27th instant, what he has received of the Wallington Rents. His goods & Stock by the Accounts I sent you will not at the utmost, amount to £200. What is to be done as to the rest of his Debt I do not know - I must leave That to Mr Gibson and you - I only wish to receive from Forster the account between Sir Walter and him which he has promised by a Letter I received from him last Night, to send me next Week; but this Steps of ours will I suspect, alter his Intention. Your Account of Sir Walter being better of his Cold & having got abroad gives me great Satisfaction -

P.S. The post mark of your Letter to me dated the 13th instant is erased & altered to the 15th wch I blame our Post Master for. & indeed great Neglects have happened at this Office lately

                                                                                                                       Iam etc HR
